Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out my ring size?
+
The most accurate way to get your finger measured is to pop into our studio or visit your local jeweller and use a jeweller’s ring sizer. Of course, this isn't always possible or convenient so here is our handy guide to size your fingers at home.
What if I need my ring re-sized?
+
If you ordered a ring from our on-line store and find you need a slightly different size please return it unworn in the original packaging within 14 days and we will happily exchange it for another size. If you need a custom made or well loved ‘ashley heather’ ring re-sized the cost will be dependant on the particular design and the size difference. Please send us an email and we will be able to quote you accordingly. You will be responsible for all shipping costs; please see our Delivery and Returns page for more information.
How long will it take for my parcel to arrive?
+
All our designs are made to order especially for you which takes approximately ten working days (the specific lead times are listed on each product). Shipping takes 2-3 working days for local orders and 5-10 days for international deliveries.
I need my order urgently. Will you be able to get it to me sooner?
+
We will do our very best to help you out wherever humanly possible. Please contact us as soon as possible before making your purchase.
How is my order packaged?
+
All our pieces come packaged in a branded hemp drawstring bag with care instructions and a little write-up about the reclamation process, making them a perfect little spoil for yourself or a thoughtful gift. The hemp bag is enclosed in a small, sturdy shipping box to ensure that your jewellery arrives in perfect condition.
Can I return my order?
+
It is very important to us that you are in love with your jewellery. We do not offer refunds, however, if for some reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, we will gladly issue an exchange or store credit within 14 days of delivery.
Is it safe to ship jewellery from South Africa?
+
Our international delivery is done via Fedex, fully tracked and traced. As a very reputable organisation, Fedex has many checks and balances in place to ensure the safe delivery of your parcel. Shipping jewellery from South Africa does not, in our experience, carry with it any more risks than jewellery deliveries anywhere else in the world.
Will there be a customs charge on my international parcel?
+
The world is a big and complicated place so there may well be a customs charge on your parcel. As we are unable to advise what these fees might be, we recommend you contact your country's customs office or tax agent for respective charges and rates on a package coming from outside your country. You will be responsible for all applicable customs, duties, taxes and fees charged by your government.
Help, I think my package may be lost.
+
Oh oh! Just kidding. We’re here to help every step of the way! Drop us a mail and we’ll help you track it down.
This is a gift for someone special. Can I ship it to them directly?
+
Yes! Just make sure to make a note of this at checkout along with their name and delivery information. This option is better suited for local orders as international deliveries require an invoice (don’t worry, we won’t include an invoice in local gift parcels) and in some countries the recipient is required to pay the customs charges directly to the courier upon delivery
Do you offer gift cards?
+
Yes we do. You'll find them under 'SHOP' in our menu.
How do I care for my jewellery?
+
Silver and gold are natural materials and react to the environment around them. Your jewellery may need a bit of TLC to keep it looking its best. Every piece of jewellery has its own specific care needs; luckily all our pieces come with care instructions and there is also a handy guide here.
Why are all your pieces made to order?
+
As a small company worried about our impact on the world, making to order allows us to a keep an eye on our precious materials and human energies. In a world already oversaturated with ‘stuff’, made to order just makes sense to us. We do carry a selection of ready to purchase stock in our Woodstock store if you need a piece in a hurry.
Do you do custom made pieces?
+
Yes absolutely, we would love the opportunity to make a special piece just for you! There are a couple of things we are not currently set up to do but please get in touch with your idea and we’ll let you know if we are the right jewellers for the job.
What materials is your jewellery made from?
+
All silver pieces are jewellery grade sterling silver. Sterling silver, the most common type of silver for jewellery, is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. This small amount of copper is what makes the silver sufficiently hard to withstand daily wear. Our standard 9 karat gold is a wonderful alloy providing incredible durability and an accessible price point. 9 karat gold is comprised of 37.5% pure gold with the balance being made up by silver and copper. Again, it is this mix that gives it its long-lasting properties. We do also offer 14 and 18 karat gold on request.
What kinds of precious stones do you work with?
+
In our range pieces we work exclusively with lab-grown diamonds. You can read more about the environmental and social reasons behind this decision here. For custom pieces we can also work with any heirloom stones you may have provided they are suited to the technical aspects of the design you would like.
What does e-waste actually mean?
+
E-waste, or electronic waste, describes discarded electronic devices. E-waste is the fastest growing municipal waste stream in the world. It is placing an ever-increasing burden on our land-fills and our eco-systems. We are excited to play a role in addressing this. You can read more about e-waste in our journal entry here.
How many circuit boards does it take to make one ring?
+
There is no straightforward answer because yields vary between different types of circuit boards and rings all weigh different amounts. But on average, one of our delicate silver rings is extracted from approximately half a kilogram of circuit boards and one delicate gold ring from approximately 20 kilograms.
Is there a quality difference between recycled and non-recycled metals?
+
No! At least not if done properly, which is something we take very seriously. All our recycled metals are processed using state of the art technologies and are checked constantly for purity and quality. There is absolutely no quality difference between our metals and those freshly extracted from the earth.
Is your jewellery nickel free?
+
Yes! All our jewellery is nickel free and suitable for those of you with allergies.
What happens if I break my piece?
+
All our pieces are made using the highest quality materials and are designed to last a lifetime, but as with all delicate treasures, they can occasionally break. If the damage is the result of a manufacturing fault, we will repair it for free within the first 2 months; all other repairs will be charged by the hour. Please let us know the extent of the damage and we will quote you on the work required.
Do your items come with a warranty?
+
Yes! All our jewellery comes with a two-month warranty on any issues related to its manufacturing. Repairs and restorations required after this date are considered a result of general wear and tear or mishandling and are therefore not covered by warranty. Please let us know the extent of the damage and we will quote you on the work required to restore your piece to its former glory
What do the stamps 925 and 9k on some of the pieces mean?
+
925 denotes Sterling Silver and 9k indicates 9 karat gold.
Why don’t all pieces have a stamp?
+
Some of our pieces are too narrow or delicate to withstand stamping. That does not mean however that they are not the same high-quality metals.
