Founded in 2011 by jeweller Ashley Heather, AuTerra creates jewellery for a living earth. Each piece is handcrafted in Cape Town exclusively in Fairmined gold and silver; we are proud to be the first Fairmined licensed brand in Africa.

Sourced directly from carefully selected artisanal mining communities, our Fairmined gold and silver respects both the planet and the livelihoods of those who rely on it. We believe in honouring the ancient art of jewellery making; some techniques of which have remained unchanged for centuries. In a world of increasing mechanisation we strive to keep these handskills and traditional knowledge alive whilst also embracing cutting edge techniques and processes, never where they are simply more convenient but where they add their own unique value to the piece.

From modest beginnings in a tiny, windowless room, we have grown into a team of three working in our beautiful studio at Woodstock’s Old Biscuit Mill. This space, just half a block from where we started, is now the heart of our operations, where each piece of jewellery is crafted with care and precision, and available for direct purchase. We also work with a network of skilled artisans around Cape Town for specialist tasks such as stone setting and engraving, keeping the vibrant jewellery manufacturing industry alive in our beautiful city.
